All of them were under torque, at about 40-50 nm to break them loose. The infamous #10 was actually not as loose as expected, however I did have some problems with its appearance. The bolt looked to have baked oil deposits all over it. The rest of the bolts were like new. I was not getting any coolant loss AFAIK, the seepage from the head was minimal and there is no trace of water in the oil, so Im hopeful that I headed off a gasket replacement. I just wish that I would have done it sooner for more piece of mind. It took a good amount of force to bring them to 90 degrees, slow and steady pressue works best. All bolts were able to go to 90.
The valve cover was the worst part. That thing was stuck on as if it was cemented on. I had to make a tool thin enough to slip under the corner to pry it off (I didnt have a chisel, scrapers are too flimsy). I ground an old screwdriver with my dremel to more of a point and that worked well. In no way would a mallet have budged it loose.
Swedecar....if you read this...
Tell me your thoughts on my 10 bolt having the baked on oil deposits. Have you seen this before? Do you think I'll be all set or is there a repair bill in my future?
