My manual start problems (2000 9-5 Aero) had to do with driver error. Somebody behind the wheel was getting his foot a bit too far to the left on the clutch pedal and hitting the floor with his shoe before the clutch was all the way down. When he did this, the car wouldn't start. This didn't begin up until a couple years after I got the car and I was a bit concerned at the time.
You might want to beware of this and make sure of where you are putting your foot and how far down the clutch pedal is getting before you get into any epensive repairs.
