Comments based on over 25 years of using and selling AMSOIL--
Flush is certainly not mandatory. If you have a high mileage car, then I certainly recommend using a flush. The flush removes any of the sludge/varnish/gunk left behind by the use of non-synthetics. If you don't, or won't, flush, then the synthetic will clean your engine, but just take longer. If you have considerable gunk in the engine, it could fill up the oil filter in a few thousand miles. Result--could be increase in oil consumption. Solution--usually, replacing the filter and topping off will take care of it.
Having said this, when I bought my 88 9000T wiht 87K on it, the shop dropped a load of AMSOIL in it without a flush. Ran it 10K, no problems, then changed oil.
If you have any questions, give me a call 1-800-891-8886.
