Noticed a few odd things about my stereo while on a road trip this weekend.
#1 There appears to be a communication failure between the head unit and the SID and steering wheel controls. At random times the channel display on the SID will turn off and then I have trouble using the steering wheel controls. I have to hold down the volume and scan buttons for an extended period to get them to do anything. The SID will then pop back on occasionally and everything is fine.
#2 I get random audio cutouts while traveling, just a few seconds of blank air. I thought it was my station here at home, I only really listen to one, but it happened with numerous stations on the trip. Wondering if this is related to #3
#3 The surface of the head unit gets VERY hot. Certainly hotter than I'd expect for normal electronics operation. Some spots (right around the 1-6 buttons) are painful to touch for extended periods of time.
FWIW these problems all seem a bit worse on extended drives which is why the heat seems like a possible cause. The SID/stero comm failure is probably worth a visit to the dealership as it's clearly abnormal and interferes with my use of the stereo, but I wanted to see if "the community" has any ideas what the problem might be. I don't like walking in there blind. TIA!
