If you live in a state that uses road salt, the rear calipers on the 9-3 will eventually rust, just like the ones on the 1994-98 900 models. By the time I read what Dean posted on the NG900 board on maintaining and rebuilding the calipers, one of mine was rusted solid. Right half of pic below.

Local dealer was going to charge $250 for a new caliper not including labor, and probably would have insisted on machining or replacing the rotor. So, new calipers, pads and rotors at a dealer or an import shop could cost $700-$1000 for a set of brakes that develop about 30% of the total braking power on the car compared to 70% on the fronts.

The site sponsors list rebuilt calipers for less than $100 (not including core charge), which is what I used. I had it put on by a local tire and brake shop, 30 minutes and $50.

Since the other side was still good, I decided to put the remanufactured caliper on with the pads that came installed in it, and let the rust wear off the rotor, and not machine the rotor. Three months later, the rotor is smooth again and almost as clean and bright as the other one.

The downside with the remanufactured calipers is that they do not have the same coating as new oem. The surface will rust quickly. That does not keep them from working but some people get kits to paint them and keep the rust off.
