From what I remember, some of the "not so good" points about the 9-3's test results were to do with possible knee/lower leg injuries caused by the extremely hard under-dash section that the legs may come in contact with.
Unfortunately (for the rest of the world) the panels are so hard because of the USA's rediculous design regulations that STILL use the assumption that no one is wearing a seatbelt (the hard panels are to help prevent foward movement). Because Saab's biggest market is the USA, the rest of the world has to suffer with a slightly less safe car.
But as someone else mentioned, there is a great deal of difference between a test result and real-world applications. I am sure the 9-3 is still one of the safest cars on the road (in it's class). I am more then willing to trust my life to one rather then an Australian, Asian or American car.
