I followed some posts on here a year back when it started to get pretty tough to put my manual '95 900SE (168K) into reverse. I, of course, did the cheapest thing possible at the time - I did nothing. Reverse got worse and eventually, it's now about a 10% chance that I can put the car into reverse without turning the car off first. It's not too hard to get out of the driveway in the morning, but it makes parallel parking in city traffic pretty embarrassing. Today, 1st and 2nd gear started to become tough to find, so I've gotta get this thing fixed stat.
Awhile back, I did the shift linkage check, plugging the hole in the shifter, etc., and it seemed to work fine. I had the clutch cable replaced a couple years ago. From what I read on saabnet, I'm assuming it is the gear linkage. I have the service notice with diagrams for "Improved Bush and Gear Linkage".
Now I'm planning on fixing this thing ASAP. I might not even be able to get to work tomorrow.
All of the problems I've had with a stiff shifter, a hard-to-find 5th gear, a disappearing reverse - they have a variety of diagnoses on saabnet. Does anyone have any advice on the most prudent next step to troubleshoot this? Thanks!
Aarn
