had a productive weekend. after recieving my steering clamp and bracket from mpperformance (thanks, ckpaden) and a 3' tube w/ trumpet from parts express (thanks, dean) i stole about 3 1/2 hours to myself on sat. and got to work.

i started with the airbox mod, and man, that wasn't much fun. it's kind of messy, and i didnt' have exactly the tools i wished, and it really just sucked. but, i got it in, with a job quality rating that would say is about a C+. Maybe a C. the trumpet end that comes with this speaker tube looked great, but i couldn't fit it (even the smaller one) into the space, so i took it off, hoping to try again later.

then, i was going to take it for a test drive, but i didn't have much time this weekend and a drive would have meant heating up the engine again, making a steering clamp install uncomfortable at best. so, i pushed on and went straight to work on the clamp/brace.

that job was easier than i expected. although i developed this weird pain behind both knees (from bending forward in towards the firewall), everything came out and went in without needing too much convincing. i have 16" wheels and was able to wedge a large crescent wrech into my springs to hold the brace nut in the wheel well while cranking down up top. not too bad.

then i went for the test drive. wow, the steering really feels much better. i'd say the 50% reduction in torque steer claim is 100% accurate. feels like a different car.

however, and maybe this is just because i wasn't able to test drive the car with only the airbox mod--no steering clamp. but, i'm wondering if the airbox mod IS really a placebo.... the car doesn't really feel any faster. spool-up didn't really seem any quicker. i don't know.. it's possible that the improved steering reduced that mbc induced "lift-off" feeling when the turbo reaches for the red, but, i just feel the car seems a little less lively?

it's possible that i need to tweak the intake position, length, flare, etc. and maybe i need to crank down on the mbc some. i just don't know. aside from the increased noise (especially at hard throttle let-up) i'm just not noticing much. maybe the car just handles too well now.... at this rate, i won't want to put on the subframe brace waiting in the trunk...:)

plus, do i now have less torque with this mod?

any ideas greatly appreciated. and thanks again from everyone here that got me this far.
