Blue smoke at startup - turbo seals or ?

Hi all, got a question about the usual 'blue smoke at startup' thing.
Bit of background - Bought my car from a non-saab dealer, and consequently it came with a 3rd party warranty. Now, having read the T's & C's if I take my car to an 'approved repairer' I'll have to foot the cost of the diagnostics, and if the warranty doesn't cover the fault pay for them to do the repair. Ouch.
I've contacted my usual local saab independant & they won't deal with the warranty company (cos they have a reputation for not paying !), so looks like I'm stuck with option 1.
My question is, can the blue smoke at startup be down to anything other than turbo seals, and if not can anyone give me an idea about how long it'll last before it dies ? (contemplating an Abbott hybrid if it'll last long enough for me to save up !)
Thanks in advance.....
