Despite more than adequate acceleration and performance on my after market modified 99-93 T-5 185 HP, (steering rack brace, 17" German rims, 22MM rear sway bar etc.), I get somewhat frustrated that my turbo guage never indicates the turbo is spooling at capacity. I recently replace my T-5 DI at 50K plus (and keep the old one in the hatch as a spare). However despite this, the turbo guage never seems to indicate optimal boost. The car is by no means slow nor could I say it was ever any faster, but I keep wondering what it takes to hit the red if acceleration from 65 to 110 along open flate midwestern interstate won't move the needle to the red zone?
Do I need to visit one of my area SAAB dealers in St. Louis, Indy or Cincinnati? The care currently loafs at 2800 RPM at 75 MPH and at 85 MPH during 370 mile long commutes between my home and work I am only at 3100 rpms, so I have to believe the turbo functions adequately. Is the the red zone just there for show?
P.S. The 9-3 was clearly designed as the penultimate interstate road warrior, since it can haul a lot of baggage very fast in comfort with built in safety while engaging the driver in the sheer joy of operation.
