Ah... my last vehicle, an Audi 100s, ended up being totalled because a drain similar to that had become clogged with organic debris. Due to a design flaw, water unable to drain through the debris flowed into the underbelly of the car, flooding the ECU and corroding the wiring harness. Luckily, it was covered by insurance as there were unusually heavy rains the week before symptoms became apparent. I have a little more faith in Saab's engineering, but I know I'll be checking this drain on my 9-3 when I get home.
