Rotating tires - Yes, no, or shave the tires

Had the tires rotated and balanced on the Viggen. I am now getting a significant vibration in the steering. (I solved this problem before the rotation related to tar) I believe I may have waited too long to rotate them and there was too much wear on the rear. ( alrady read a few complaints on that problem)
The tires are Dunlop SP Sport FM901. The have about 9000 miles on them. All 4 have at least 3/4 tread left. After the rotation, the vibration is fairly significant and gives tread noise off straight ahead from the front tires. Close inspection revealed feathering on the inside tread blocks that I had not noticed when they were on the rear. I think I should have swapped them at 5K or maybe even less, before they were worn, but it was winter and they looked OK.
These Dunlops are OK, no real problems in rain or dry, but will break loose under maximum acceleration in 3rd gear, however cornering is very good and predictable. I can live with them until new tire time.
My question: Should I wait and hope the now noisy, vibrating fronts (prev. rear) wear and hopefully smooth out, or just put them back as was before the original fronts get worn from the rear and just replace them all when one end or the other needs it, and consider it a lesson learned.
I have never had 45 series low profile tires before, and the last time I had a similar problem on a VW GTI with 60 series, I had the tires shaved and trued at a shop.
Suggestions for more experienced SAAbers?
