I bought my 2000 Viggen in 9/03 with 76,xxx. The car was in great condition and the maintenance history was good.
It now has 116,xxx and it has been like a rock. Other than normal maintenance, all I have done is the direct ignition cassette, at 103,xxx. I recently did the front brake pads and rotors for the first time since I've owned it.
Viggens get driven aggressively. Nonetheless, the reliability on mine has been great. I see no reason it shouldn't go 200,000 miles.
I'd recommend getting the pre-purchase inspection done by a Saab specialist. IF you find a guy who knows these cars and really loves them, he'll probably spend two hours checking it over and 45 minutes talking to you, and charge you an hour of labor. Look in the "Mechanics" section of Saabnet for someone near you.
Good luck!
Dave
