The Koni top rubber bushing supplied with my rear shock absorbers was about 2/3 the diameter of the Koni supplied washers in the free state.
After reading Koni's instructions I tighened the nuts down with about 3 threads showing above the top most (jam) nut, this was just beginning to compress the bushing. After a couple months I could hear the rear shock absorbers clunk when going over a speed bump or a driveway entrance. Inspection showed that the rubber bushing was barely compressed and was allowing the top of the shock absorber to move when compressed (like when going over a bump).
I tightened the nuts at the top of the shock absorbers until the rubber bushing was compressed to about the same diameter as the washers. This was with approximately 6-7 threads showing above the jam nut. This complete eliminated the clunking noise fom the rear shocks.
