T5 system, red DIC:
If the plugs are carbon fouled and not the correct plugs, that can be expected. If the plugs are 7Es and carbon fouled, you probably need the 6ES plugs which are hotter and will stay clean for your driving profile.
Check plugs for tracking or cracked insulators.
Can be a bad DI. Any sign of oil on any of the high voltage nipples on the DI? If oil has leaked out of any of the coils, replace the DI.
You really need to post miles on a post like this, and known age of the DI.
If original DIC, you should be getting a new one in any case. Some old red DI's with loer miles can screw up instead of sudden death. Read the date code on the sticker on bottom of DI. It reads YYWW or WWYY, Year and Week of the year [1-52].
The CEL comes on when the ECU determines that the misfire rate is a threat to the CAT. If only one cylinder has a code, that means that that cylinder is responsible for 95% of the mis-fires. So that does not mean that the other cylinders are perfect.
