I think I know the answer to this but I'm hoping that I'm wrong and that someone knows better than me...
Today when leaving the carwash, I pushed the clutch in the whole way about the same time that the engine fired, and the car was in 1st gear at that time (I'm running a short shifter with the reverse lockout removed). The car bucked as the gearbox first was connected to the engine and then was suddenly disconnected as a quickly pushed the clutch to the floor. Still in 1st and holding the clutch to the floor I applied the brakes and came to a stop, waiting for traffic. The car idle bogged-down and it acted like it wanted to stall--at first I thought there were engine problems, but realized that when I push the clutch down to the floor it's not fully disengaging the engine from the transmission.
The car can be shifted (as normally as can be expected) when the engine is not running. So because I have the reverse lockout removed I can put the car in 2nd, start the engine, and drive it like that. The pressure plate will partially dis-engage enough to allow the car to idle in gear when the clutch is to the floor, but not enough to allow shifting while the engine is running.
My first thought was that the shifter linkage had slipped and needed to be repositioned. I limped home in darn traffic, got the tools out, and unfortunately that's not the case. So the problem is likely not in the linkage up to the adjustment point next to the firewall.
Any ideas what I broke/bent?
