ATF change & lost dipstick o-ring (a little long)

Okay, I'm a little embarassed...
I just changed my ATF for the first time since I've owned the car and when I went to put the dipstick back in place after re-filling the ATF, the dipstick didn't fit nearly as tight as it had before. Upon further examination, the little o-ring was gone!
I'm not sure what happened, but I figure that the o-ring stuck in the filler pipe, and then when I put the funnel in there to re-fill the fluid, the o-ring must have come unstuck and gone down in the resevoir.
Can anyone think of another likely possibility or if anything bad can come of this? If the o-ring is down in the resevoir now, I assume that the a/t has some kind of filter that will prevent it from interfering with the operation of things?
Since I'm planning on repeating the ATF change a couple of more times over the next several weeks, I'm hoping that the o-ring will reappear during one of these changes.
Any thoughts?
Thanks everyone.
