Center armrest question...

I just picked up my '02 9-3 SE from a local dealer, after having it in for service for some minor stuff. One of the issues was that the driver's side seat control's panel was broken off and flapping. They replaced the panel, but I'm wondering if in order to replace it, they had to take off the center armrest (I have the optional vinyl armrest/storage thing), because it doesn't feel as sturdy as I remember it... Now keep in mind, I've only had the car for 3 weeks, and they gave me an almost-new 9-5 to drive, so I might just be paranoid, but...
I guess my question is, should the entire back end of the center armrest move a little? In particular, should the back of it, where the rear vents and the ashtray are, separate from the rest by about 1/4" by hand if I pull on it, or should it be all solid? Because I can now hear it squeak under my elbow, and I don't remember that noise from before...
