I have used Optima for many years. I put a group 75/25 Optima RedTop in my wife's 1991 Alfa Romeo Spider when it a was just about 3-years old. Having a regular lead/acid battery in a trunk mount like the Alfa is just asking for an acid spill/corrosion problem. We sold the Alfa in October 2004 to a iend to make room for the 2005 9-3 Aero CVT. That was about 10 years on the same Optima battery. So, I would say "YES", the Optima batteries lasts a good long time.
I have had the 34R OrangeTop (now superceded by the 34R RedTop) Optima battery in my 1998 900SET since Aug. 2001 and have not had any issues with it at all.
