There is little point to a different turbo if you are not going to increase the boost. The new turbo will run the same boost as the old one if you don't change anything else.
Some turbos leak oil because of high crankcase pressure. The PVC can be a problem on some years. But I don't recall 2000 being affected. Perhaps others will comment on this.
Better to put your money into a turbo rebuild, K&N, and ECU Such changes will work well with your Sports exhaust.
I think that you have a cross flow IC that is the same as the Viggen's IC. You don't have a turbo discharge silencer or TBTC to deal with either.
Which engine do you have? I don't know how to decode your VIN for that. Your owners manual should have a VIN decode section.
for year 2000
Turbocharger system
The B205L is fitted with a Garret GT 17, a modern
turbocharger with light moving parts for fast
response even at low engine speeds. ...
The B205L therefore feels
more powerful at low engine speeds. This is due
to the turbocharger providing boost pressure even
at low engine speeds and its fast response.
Engine
The following engine variants are available for the
9-3 in the U.S. market, model year 2000:
• 2.0 Turbo Ecopower 185 hp B205L
• 2.0 Turbo Ecopower 205 hp B205R
• 2.3 Turbo Ecopower 230 hp B235R
The B204L and B204R engines have been
replaced with the new generation B205L and
B205R engines. Both are exhaust certified as
LEV (Low Emission Vehicle), which also applies
to the B235R (Viggen engine). The new
generation is equipped with the Trionic (T7)
engine management system to communicate with
other systems on the bus.
The B205R, which is principally a high output
B205L engine, has a different turbocharger, a
Mitsubishi TD 04. This turbocharger has a
greater capacity than the GT 17, which is
necessary due to the higher power output. The
Mitsubishi turbocharger is also fitted on the
B235R Viggen engine.
