Engine miss at highway speeds

Got a 98 900S with 70,000 miles. At 2500-3000 RPMs, after engine is warm, I notice a persistent miss, most often with light accelerator pedal pressure. Engaging the cruise control lessens the problem. Ultimately the check engine light comes on. I've taken it to my local dealer several times, but he hasn't found the problem yet.
I noticed that others have had this same problem with their 9-3, notably Wavey in a thread beginning in March '03, at http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-3/index.html?bID=51871.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
