CEL - BPC or Wastegate? Posted by Adam [Email] (#344) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Adam) on Mon, 9 May 2005 04:41:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi Everyone --
Received the dreaded CEL this weekend on my 9-3 (2001 SE w/ 5 spd. and 57K very well maintained miles)
The light came on after a passing maneuver which involved a fair amt. of boost. Car runs and idles fine when warmed up, checked all fluids, etc. and couldn't see a problem.
The only two notables are that it was difficult to start this morning - took right off as usual but stuttered for a few seconds and had a hard time finding a steady 1000 RPM idle... with some coaxing from the gas pedal we were good to go... again, fine once warmed up (both starting and idling).
The second item was puzzling to me - if I shift up around 3000+ RPM under moderate boost/acceleration there is a brief 1-2 second "fluttering" sound from the engine compartment as soon as I'm off the gas and on the clutch. At the same RPM under light acceleration there is no noise. Prior to the light coming on this "fluttering" was not there at all so I'm thinking these two things may be related.
I'm going to make an appt. to get it in tomorrow but was just wondering what everyone thought of this... I first thought BPC and/or wastegate but could be wrong. Would those throw a CEL? Anything else in the turbo plumbing that would?
Thanks!
