Just thought I'd share some important info I found out with my 1999 Viggen. My car has never gone past 1/2 yellow boost ever since I bought it about 18 months ago. It seemed to run fine and everything so I thought this was 'normal'. As of late, there has been some increased hesistation and surging (feels like as if you were pumping the gas pedal even if you were holding it steady) under moderate boost. Finally, I heard some very faint pinging for 1-2 seconds when I was going uphill. I knew I had to do something right away. I searched around on the 9-3 and performance BB for answers and saw some issues other people were having. I took a shot in the dark and replaced the MAF. Holy Cow!!! It's like getting a new Viggen for the price of the MAF. ($179 from dealer) I would highly recommend if you have any drivability issues or your boost doesn't go close to the red, have your MAF checked out and/or replaced. I think this failure does have to do a lot with piston/engine failures others on the 9-3 and perf. BB have seen. Please Please Please check your MAF if you think anything is even remotely out of whack.
Tom
P.S. My car only had 53,000 original miles on it, and had no mods.
I always used 92-93 octane.
MAF part number is 91 73 386 used on T7 engine managemnt.
