Hi, Others on the board can give you more info on long-term ownership but since I was in your shoes I wanted to give you a quick opinion. I bought a very well maintained 99 SE convert. w/ 63,000 miles on it for $12,500 in the LA area. I considered other soft-tops from AUDI and Honda. I didn't look at BMW's soft tops due to my previous experiences.

I'm new to SAABs and use this car for the weekends. I drive a lot (I'm in sales) and have had many new cars over the years. In fact this is the first used car I bought since 1978.

This is what I think: First of all I don't have any buyer's remorse; I like it a lot. If you dive top down, have the mesh wind screen up behind the front seats and the windows up its quiet enough for a normal conversation at least to 85 miles an hour (which is as fast as I ever drive on the freeway.

Power is OK, nothing special, definitley more of a cruiser--I use the sport mode a lot to give it more emphasis on power. Gas mileage is about 22mpg for me.

My car has aftermarket 17" wheels, they look nice but I'd guess that 16" wheels would give a better trade-off of ride verses performance. The body structure is OK, some shuttering and shake but I'll chalk that up to the convertible top.

Interior is nice to live with, pretty and comfortable. I really needed to read the manual in a few spots to figure out the electronic systems, not a step learning curve but not exactly intuitive.

Appeal factor is high with family and friends-- several people I know have owned SAABs in the past and all of them said they had good luck with them. What ever you do-- good luck.
