I expect that they never put loctite on those. I don't think that it is 'in the book'.
Now the dealers do see those torx screws missing all of the time. You might have an expectation that they would figure that something was going on. And the valve cover screws come out from time to time too. But thats not the same problem. If those are tightened properly they will stay put.
The DI moves (relatively) during startup and tighting the screws harder will never stop that. The engine warms faster than the DI. So the screws cannot stay tight by themselves. If too tight the screws will probably damage the valve cover threads until the get loose enough for the DI to slide a bit.
And no one in Saab Quality Assurance was told that they should audit the head bolt torque either. Their answer to this in 1997 was to tighen the head bolts less. And they made the bolts weaker for some reason. Why does all of this read like HHGTTG?
Not everything that needs to be done gets done. Some things you need to take control of yourself. Thats what this BB is for. You can't be reading all of this stuff and then leave everything in the dealers hands.
I love Saabs, but I have to wonder about some of the characters who make them. :)
