You should shop around for and extended warranty, but you should check that the actual insurance company is good - you can check ratings of insurance companies. You also usually need to have at least 30 or 60 days and 1,000 miles of the factory warranty left, so don't wait too long. Someone commented that if you've had few problems with the car to now, then you should have few problems in the future. I bought an extended warranty on a '98 Audi A4 for $900, and it's good until June '06 or 100,000 miles. So far the warranty company has paid out about $3000. Some items that were fixed were just annoying and if you didn't have an extended warranty you might not get them fixed, like a minor problem with the AC fan, or small oil leaks. But with an extended warranty you will get them fixed. Also, I expect more leaks plus some front end work - these are common failures in this car. (I also have a '99 Landrover Disco2, and I'm currently at the $2000 break even point, with 2 years left.)
