Platinum NGK PFR6H-10 plugs should be good for up to about 30k. They're more like $12 each, so if you're paying a shop to change them, I guess it makes sense.
Dean's note about NGK BCPR6ES plugs (Copper) makes sense if you change them yourself, depending on how much you charge yourself for labor... ;-) If you use the copper plugs, I'd change them more like 10k miles. At least inspect them at that interval.
