No, the smart key won't work. Your car requires a transponder, which the backup (slideout) key in the smartkey does not have. Also, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that the alarm systems are different. With the newer 9-3s, you don't take the metal key out unless the remote's battery is dead (i.e. open the door, trunk, etc). To start the car, you just put the whole darn thing in the ignition slot. Pretty cool, but it won't work for you.
