Jared,
Not the same system at all. You will need access to a Tech II to program a new remote to the car. You will also need ALL the keys and remotes for the car when you program the new remote. Any keys or remotes not reprogramed will not work any longer.
For example, customer brings in a 99-> 9-3 or 9-5 with a bad remote. I program the new remote and that key for the car. His SO goes to use her key/remote and they no longer work.
ALWAYS BRING ALL KEYS AND REMOTES WHEN YOU BRING IN A CAR FOR A LOCK/ALARM PROBLEM!!!
It will save you a lot of headaches.
Hope this helps,
Steve Crowe, Saab Master Tech, who represents himself and no one else,
