I have a '01 9-3 Viggen Convertible and absolutely love it.
The only "issues" I've had were a front suspension popping noise when backing our of the garage and turning the wheel. Check for that - it can be fixed easily by re-torqueing the front suspension bolts. Will be covered under warranty if an issue. Also, some 9-3 owners report a squeaking noise when going over speedbumps coming from the shocks - especially in cold weather. I had the dealer drill holes in the strut boots to allow air to escape and this remedied the problem.
Another issue with these cars is a "chafing" of the convertible top on the right rear near the rear window in 2 spots. This happens because the rear window heater clamps rub the top whilst the top is down. I have this problem and hope to get the entire top replaced under warranty before it expires - dealer doesn't seem to want to do this though. Will have to fight them on it since it began to happen prior to having the car for a year and has gotten worse.
Other than that, I love the car. It's a real head-turner with great quality and a definite "fun to drive factor."
