I'm still at yellowstone, waiting for the part...
However, I took the airbox out and inspected the pulleys (should've done that first!) and found that the A/C pulley bearings were grinding and had axial play. I (and the mechanic) think that the bad AC pulley pulled the belt off axis and since the idler pulley is the smallest/weakest pulley, that was ripped off along with the belt. Upon inspection, the bearings/bushing in the idler pulley was fine. The black plastic part was ripped/melted off...
In terms of coolant temperature... As soon as I lost power steering and AC (the same time as the battery light came on), I tried to find a place to pull over. In fact, I think the coolant started to fizzle out of the resovior right when I opened the hood.
We're going to try to find a short belt and bypass the AC pulley. That way, at least I can make it back home to MI...
