Having checked quite a few related posts, it seems I probably have the classic 94\95 model ignition switch failure issue. Got a 94 GM v6 with 95k miles on the clock.

After having a couple of power failures in traffic and being able to restart after 3 or 4 attempts, the third time it happened the instrument cluster fuse blew. Replaced the fuse and it's been fine for a few weeks, but i reckon it's just a matter of time. The mechanic said that there's no excessive current draw and the fuel system is fine.

After checking battery terminals and grounds etc, I'm just wondering what to do first: the switch or an instrument cluster? I can get a used switch from a saab wrecker pretty cheaply, however, is there much point in replacing it with an old switch? I don't get the intermittent loss or flickering of gauges as some people report, so I'm not sure it's instrument related. When it stalls, it throws phantom CELS and that's about it..

With $80 for a switch and an hour and halfs labour, maybe that's the best place to start?
