I believe the stock size is 205/50-16. Subsequently in late 2001 the factory started putting 205/*55*-16s on the same car. I don't think the handling at the limit was quite as crisp, but the improved ride of the taller 55's could be noticed all the time. Also the 55 profile is a more popular size and hence better selection and pricing. The speedo diff from 50 to 55s is negligible.
