Watch the boost indicator. You turn it in to increase the spring pressure on the ball-valve. This then requires that the boost be higher before the BPCR begins to allow flow to the BCP and WGA.
The main intent is to increase the responsiveness of the turbo, and to increase the base boost so that there is more power in the lower gears. You should not be trying to increase the peak boost, but some is possible. Again, watch you boost indicator. You might get more torque in 1st gear than the tires can handle... depends on your tires. You certainly do not want to need to baby the throttle in 2nd gear runs.
The SMBC comes with a starting point, but there is nothing special about it. It is not setup on a flow bench. So do not worry that you needed to change it.
