if a, are you able to get the scheduled maintenance from current owner? that would tell you what has been done versus what has not been done. If b, you can request for that info since the history is logged via VIN. This history will tell you any problems and if it was addessed. Also, if b, get an extended warranty for any problems.
The 9-3 engine is good as long as it is maintained on schedule. Do you know if the 9-3 has the HOT, high output turbo? A turbocharged engine is not kind to motor oil, the scheduled history once again will tell you a lot. Stainless steel exhaust is an option. Some folks have summer tires and winter tires as the season dictates.
The service history record requirement will also apply to a 9-5. If you are planning/considering for a 9-5, get the Aero sport wagon!! good luck!
