Is my clutch cable going to snap soon??

Normally my clutch works fine. But yesterday I was having a hard time shifting and noticed the friction-point was closer to the floor. I did the "slide the foot off the pedal and let the clutch snap back" trick and after that it was fine. This morning when I got in it needed it again, then it was fine all the way to work (30 min drive).
Anyone have this event preceed a broken clutch cable? I'm wondering if I should just replace it now and prevent being stuck on the side of the road.
This cable is about 2 years and 20K old. The clutch itself is about 3 years and 30K old.
