but the way these things can suddenly fail can be deadly. Some get a CEL, some get rough running, some get both, some just can completely shut down without warning. Imagine passing a car on a 2 lane road with a log truck heading at you, downshift to fourth, step on the gas, turbo spools, pass and as you ready to pull in ahead of the car you passed your car suddenly shuts down, no power steering, no power brakes, no acceleration. That thought can give you night sweats...the DI in the trunk can get buried with you.
There seems to be no particular interval for failure, I thought since my first one died at 48k, the replacement would be needed in another 40-50k, but that was not the case, the next one did not make it to 20k. So it is hard to deal with this as a scheduled maintenance item.
