On Saturday, my wife and I traded in my trusty '97 900SE coupe (black/black, manual, sport exhaust, K&N, 123K) for an '02 9-3SE 5-door (grey/grey, manual, Premium Pkg., 14K) at World Imports in Jacksonville, FL. Clean Carfax, some issues taken care of by World Imports and the local Saab dealer, a few more warranty issues (SID, rear spoiler) to deal with when I get the time. Luckily, the 4/50K warranty is good thru 03/06.
Impressions thus far: Acceleration seems similar (205Hp vs. approx. 193Hp). Hydraulic clutch is very light compared to the cable clutch. The 9-3 is very quiet without a sport exhaust. The new speedometer will take some getting used to (100 to 160mph is squished on the 9-3, whereas on the 900, it was equally spaced all the way to 150mph). My typical commuting speed is 70-85mph which is now way over at 3 o'clock on the new speedo. Seats still need breaking in - I guess the former owner was a lot lighter than me. Body seems a bit more flexy than the 900 coupe - I can hear squeaking from the rear seats during cornering (city driving speeds).
To do list: get 2nd remote/key, get touch-up paint, fix squeaking from rear spoiler, get SID replaced.
Regrets - I miss my analog clock & Viking wheels.
Loves - Variable intermittent wipers & lumbar support on the passenger seat.
But hey, I still get to hang on this BB!
Regards all - JMJ
