Ask your wife if the tach moves when she cranks the car. If not then think about #3 if yes then you can rule it out.
Ask her to check the fuel pump fuses and relays to make sure they activate. You can even have her check the fuel pump for any whirring indicating that the fuel pump is working.
Have someone crank the car with the hood open and listen for 30 seconds after they stop for a rain/spark type sound. THis is the DI cleaning itself. If you hear this then it is not as likely to be a di failure.
