As noted in an earlier message, I am interested in purchasing a Saab convertible. While I was initially looking at several 1998 900s, technicians at a couple of repair shops that specialize in Saabs felt that a 1999 9-3 would be '100s' of times better as Saab corrected a lot of chronic problems.
I know from my previous ownership of a Volvo 850 Turbo that oil changes and other routine preventive maintenance is critical to long life and (relatively) hassle-free driving. Given the deep collective knowledge of this group, should I focus on the 9-3? If so, is there much difference between the 1999 and 2000 model years? The only thing that I know for sure is that I want the SE trim level.
Is there any way to know whethe car has been maintained according to factory specifications if the work was not performed at a dealer? I am going to have a pre-purchase inspection performed which I hope would catch this type of thing.
