Clutch Pedal (freeplay) woes

Hi all,
Driving my '95 900S home last night, I suddenly felt a lot (~1 inch) more freeplay in the clutch, and it's not nearly as "hard" as it was before. Am I right in thinking it's the cable? I'm going on a ~250 mile road trip tomorrow, and need to replace it or (if it's more major) rent a car ASAP. I've got WIS, and it looks pretty easy to do, but sounds like somewhat of a PITA from other posts. Please advise w/ hints, ideas, and the like.
IM me at UALvolar on AIM if you'd like.
