Evap leaks are fairly common on NG900/OG9-3.
I don't know how you would get a used evap to work unless it was a replacement unit itself.
The original evap has tubes that extend through the firewall to the expansion valve. Normally during replacement the tubes are cut off so the evap can slide out of the case. The tubes are then removed.
The replacement evap has the tubes in two sections. You insert the tubes in the firewall, then slide the evap into the case and bolt the tubes to the evap.
The V-6 NG900 did not have this problem because the expansion valve had to relocated in the case due to heat from rear manifold.
I suppose you could use a used one if you pulled the dash and the heater box away from the firewall enough to clear the tubes. This would be a much bigger job.
3 hours is a good deal. We get 5 hours for a V-6 and 6 hours for a 4 cylinder.
Good luck,
Steve
