As it turns out, due to balking on our part on the title, we didn't actually buy the 9-3 we were looking at, although we still have the option to do so.
We did a carfax and called the owner's name on the title (the title has ben transferred a few times, due to auto auctions) and got some history ...
Car bought off lease, driven by son, when it broke down, they went for something newer.
Here's a little repair history (they owned it since 90k):
2004 -- DI replaced at 102k, as well as head gasket, water pump, and clutch in the same year.
2005 -- alternator, front rotos and pads, and ebrake cable.
After all this work (at the dealer... VERY pricey) they donated the car to a charity auction and got something newer.
Should I run away? Carfax checks out with no problems. The car is not perfect, but seems to run well. Has a few dings here and there, nothing major. It has 109k on it, of course it's not perfect.
Are these all normal repair items for this age/mileage, or are they indicative of the car being treated rough?
What else should I expect to fail on this thing in the near future (considering that I'm planning on driving it 1500 miles out to school in Sept.)?
TIA,
Tim Bates
