Can't remove tie-rod end

I am having some issues removing a tie-rod end. The car failed inspection because the joint was loose so I got a new one and am replacing it. I removed the tapered shaft from the strut housing and the tie-rod is free. I also removed the small bolt that goes through the tie-rod end and clamps it down, but I cant actually remove the piece itself. The entire thing clearly just unscrews from the inner piece, but not having a real good place to get a wrench on I'm having trouble.
I am using a real big cresent wrench on the middle of the thing where it is relatively flat and it holds well. I also have a smaller wrench on the nut that is part of the adjusting bolt to provide some opposite push to prevent the tie-rod from flexing.
Should I just keep on blasting it away with pentetrating lube or am I doing something wrong. PLEASE HELP
Jeff
