I took a few off and have been successful with the following method. Find a thick scrap piece of rubber, such as a piece of an old floor mat. Get a pipe wrench large enough to fit around the knob. Put the rubber piece around the knob and grab the whole thing with the pipe wrench. Make sure that piece of rubber is thick enought so the teeth on the jaws of the pipe wrench don't bite into the knob itself. Give it a twist one way or another....you want to break the epoxy seal holding on the knob. Once it breaks loose, the knob should just pull straight up and off, usually along with the shaft is used to engage reverse.
