I don't know how far away you are from a shop where they might have a brake lathe, but if you are close I would have them cut the rotors to get rid of the rust if th ethickness is enough. It will not go away by itself.
Back in Sweden years ago it was not common at all to machine the rotors and you drove around with almost completly caked up rotors where the rust had extended from the inner and outer side of rotor and almost met in the middle.
The rust will not wear off by the pads since that glazed rust surface is harder than what the pads can grind off.
