My 1995 has been doing the same thing recently. It started when one of the tension straps that runs between the headliner and the top frame somehow got hooked around the little flap in the tonneau on the driver side when trying to lower the top. In my car, I need to lower the top until it hits, then get out of the car and hold the tonneau away from the hood so it can lower. Although it makes contact upon raising, it goes up all the way on it's own. I lowered the top maybe 5 times this year, so I'm not to motivated to find a fix, but would be interested if there was an easy one. I get jealous when I see the current 93 top mechanism because it's so much sleeker and faster than the design on my car. Plus the color matched tonneau looks right. Oh well. At least my car only cost three months of savings (and that was one year ago).
