Need to Replace Anything Else With a New AC Compressor?

Well, the fun may just be beginning with the 2001 9-3 convertible that I purchased last week. It seemed to be well maintained and in good shape with 120K miles, but I had my first surprise this morning when I took it in to see why the AC was not cold.
The shop told me that the compressor was 'coming apart', but they could not get me a price today. Checked eeuroparts (thanks for this great site!) and found one for about $600. I was wondering, however, if I need to or should replace anything else at the same time. I noticed that they have an AC Condensor ($450 from Saab, $210 aftermarket) and evaporator (core for $650 or kit for $300). Are these parts that should be changed at the same time?
As a mechanical luddite, what function do the condensor and evaporator perform? I had budgeted $1500-2000 to get the car up to par, but this was not the type of repair that I was expecting. My fear now is that I have a money pit that is going to siphon my wallet for twice what I was budgeting, but really like the car too much to return it. Plus, I figure that these repairs should be good for several years. I just hate that the costs are front loaded.
