Its shouldn't make a difference if they are designed to be a full-range speaker, meaning they have a tweeter and respond to 20hz-20khz. But was does matter is the sensitivity, or how much volume is achieved given a certain amount of power. This usually falls in the 85-95bd range. I believe that its measured using pink noise, at one watt, at one meter.
Also, if the speaker is designed to handle high power then it is built with a stronger magnet and stiffer cone and surrounds to take more punishment and sound good when driven hard with high power amps. If you drive it with low power than these actually become a detriment to the sound quality, as you will get weak bass and undefined mids.
You said you tried Jensen's which are pretty low end and more than likely designed for lower power amplification. So it looks like you have covered the speaker issue. I guess my only advice would be to get Saab OEM from a wrecking yard if you are still not happy with the aftermarket setup. Goldwing saab should have what you are looking for (Site Sponsor).
