That is a bummer, and really annoying that Saab sems to be hiding behind some rediculous rules. I recently had a Dodge Intrepid that had a sludge problem and the engine died at 95K. The rest of the car was in nice shape, but $6000 for a motor in a car thats worth $5000 did not make a lot of sense.
I ended up donating the car to the Good New Garage, They put a used motor in it and gave it to a family in need. I got a tax write off for next year. Dodge did the same duck and run routine that Saab is doing to you. Even though there is a class action law suit against dodge for the sludge problem.
Just a thought, but if you have the time. Have the Saab towed to a highly trafficed area and put a big poster on it that says, ENGINE DIED, BOGUS WARRANTY! Take a picture and email it to SAAB. Maybe then they will get the message.
There is no reason that Saab isn't selling replacement engines to people in your shoes at a wholesale cost at the very least.
I love my Saab, but I am discouraged at just about every American car maker and there crappy customer service. I don't think my next car will be from GM, FORD or Chrysler.
